ALL OVER CLEAN

DriftAwaySoap is pleased to offer you even more earth friendly and people friendly natural alternatives in the way of shampoo bars (for you and you pet), spearmint toothbrushing soap and powder, and laundry powder.

Stay natural.  Get clean.

SHAMPOO BARS

No more plastic bottles in the shower with these refreshingly scented shampoos.  Natural shampoos are not only safe for treated hair but because they are so gentle they will keep your curls and colors lasting longer. I recommend you slice off a little bit as needed and leave the rest of the bar high and dry until your next wash.   I have a tea cup full of little chopped up Shampoo Bar bits in the bathroom cupboard.  It is easy to grab one on the way into the shower.  Each tiny piece lasts two to three washes for me. You will be amazed at how much lather you get here!

CITRUSITY ~ for oily to normal hair types

$ 5.00 USD

Oily hair doesn’t necessarily need a “drying” shampoo.  That would cause the scalp to produce even more sebum to compensate and make your hair feel even more oily.  What we need here is something moisturizing but light, like coconut milk.  In all of my soap recipes I use light oils that absorb easily.   So in this case especially, the avocado, sunflower, and grapeseed oils are a very good thing.   Citrus-y essential oils are good for providing tone and clarity to this type of hair too.  So here you go folks.

NANTUCKET GARDEN ~ for normal hair types

$ 5.00 USD

For this one I made sure that we would have a nicely balanced and nutrient rich shampoo.  As always, I have utilized a host of light and moisturizing oils like grapeseed oil that is particularly fine in hair care because it is very high in antioxidants and contains high amounts of vitamin E, vitamin C, Beta-Carotene, and vitamin D.   Plus this Shampoo Bar comes with the ever popular Nantucket Garden scent.  Which happens to contains clarysage and lavender essential oils and according to my research both are beneficial to all types of hair, can be used for the treatment of scalp itchiness, dandruff, and even lice! YAY!

BREW HAIRDO ~ for dry to normal hair types

$ 5.00 USD

Cisco Brewers makes some great beer and as it turns out great beer is great for your hair too.  Sweet.  Beer can add volume and shine to your locks.  In addition to B vitamins, the proteins found in malt and hops are said to repair damaged hair and boost overall body. Meanwhile, the sugars in beer tighten the hair’s cuticles for enhanced shine.  In addition I have added a healthy dose of flaxseed oil which can promote hair growth and take you even further down that road of lasting hair strength and shine.

FOR THE DOG

$ 5.00 USD

Self-explanatory really, isn’t it?   I took the basics of a good shampoo bar with flaxseed oil for strength and shine.  Then I added some essential oils that will help control the flea and insect population on your beloved pooch.  Here on Nantucket ticks are particularly problematic.  I can’t guarantee that this will keep them all away but every little bit helps.  At the very least it can’t hurt and your dog will totally look good and smell great.

TOOTHBRUSHING SOAP

Toothpastes contain a sticky form of glycerin that coats the teeth and creates a barrier requiring 20 or more rinses to remove.   This barrier prevents the re-mineralization of tooth enamel, dramatically weakening the teeth.  It is also suggested that fluoride found in toothpaste and drinking water actually makes discolored.  When brushing with soap, the enamel thickens and becomes less sensitive.  Dentists who recommend brushing with soap claim that gums are properly disinfected, bacteria and viruses promptly destroyed, plaque is effectively prevented and removed, and brushing with soap can even prevent gingivitis.  These dentists have stated that brushing with soap and removing acidic foods and beverages from a diet that includes enough calcium, phosphate and vitamin C is the safest most effective way to better dental health.

~~~PLEASE TAKE NOTE:   I do try to avoid excess packaging with all of my products.  If you purchase the toothbrushing soap in a blue glass jar please remember to recycle!!   Also feel free to mail the empty containers back to me and receive a dollar off your next purchase for every container returned.   Thanks for your help!
LAUNDRY POWDER
Directions:   Use 1 to 2 TBS of laundry powder per load (1/2 to 1 TBS for HE washers)  That comes out to roughly 32 to 64 loads of laundry! (64 to 128 loads in a HE washer!)
Some Somewhat Helpful Tips:
~This stuff works best in hot water but if you are like me and prefer to wash in cold water,  that works just fine too.
~Want fabric softener?  Or extra help removing soap residue from clothes? Add 1/4 cup white vinegar to the rinse cycle.  Your clothes will not smell like vinegar.
~If you have trouble getting the soap to dissolve in your cold water wash you can always try this: Heat a cup of water in the microwave, stir a TBS of the laundry powder into it until it starts to dissolve before pouring into your machine.   You could also try turning the entire batch into a liquid detergent by dissolving the whole bag into a pot of simmering water on the stove.  Then dilute that into a half full five gallon bucket of cool water.  Stir, cover, and let sit overnight.  It should turn into a snotty looking gel.  Use 1/4 cup of this liquid detergent per load.  (This is an untested theory based on recipes I have seen for homemade liquid detergent.  If you try it, let me know if it works.)
About The Ingredients:
~A strong batch of DriftAwaySoap's Heaven Scent.  Every oil needs a certain amount of lye to transform it into soap.  Usually I "superfat" my soaps by subtracting 5% -8% of that required amount of lye.  This makes a milder soap.  For the laundry soap I only "superfatted" to 2%.  This makes it a slightly stronger soap.
~Borax.  Borax is a mineral that occurs naturally in deposits produced by the repeated evaporation of seasonal lakes.  It has been mined in the United States since the 1800s.   It is a boron compound also known as sodium borate, sodium tetraborate, or disodium tetraborate.  Although it is a natural product it comes with some toxicity warnings.  It can irritate the skin if in direct contact and can be harmful if swallowed in large amounts.  These warnings are especially to be taken into consideration around infants and children.    If you choose to use this laundry powder on your baby's clothes I would recommend that you use half the suggested amount and maybe a little white vinegar in the rinse cycle or I can make special batch for you upon request simply by leaving out the borax.
~Washing Soda.  Washing soda is not to be confused with baking soda.  Washing soda is sodium carbonate and baking soda is sodium bicarbonate.  Just like Borax it is mined in the U.S. from mineral deposits formed by evaporation of seasonal lakes.
